Foreign student admissions

The focus of the International Relations Office (IRO) is to welcome International Families to Salesianos do Porto.

In our school, the integration of a foreign student also implies the integration of the family. We want the whole family to find in us a second home, where everyone belongs and has a place to be, a place where one’s heritage, story, language and culture are protected and nurtured.

What is the IRO strategic approach?

Welcoming

To welcome families and organize their visit to the school premises in a personalized way
To inform and guide the application process of foreign students, upon the arrival of the family
To provide close support in the adaptation and integration process

Monitoring

Create a working group with pivotal elements of the educational community linked to the foreign student’s studies and activities at school (Pedagogical Director, Head teachers, ArtiSport, Teacher of Portuguese as a Second Language and Educational Assistants), in order to be informed and constantly updated in a comprehensive way on the integration and adaptation process
Guide new students and their families in the adaptation processe, promoting a constant approach and dialogue, in order to align the family's experience in the city with the student's experience at school
Develop educational programmes, such as Portuguese language courses for Foreigners for families together with events and meetings with other foreign families and the Portuguese community

Development and Maintenance

Organize cultural sharing activities in the classroom, which can facilitate the promotion and dissemination of both culture and language of the foreign student, encouraging Portuguese student’s familiarity, harmony and respect
Promote the participation of Salesianos do Porto’s students, teachers and staff in international mobility programmes and networks
